Student Support

Counseling Services

Harbour Pointe Middle School has three full-time counselors who support students throughout all three years of middle school. Each counselor stays with the same group of students as they move from 6th to 8th grade, building strong and lasting relationships. This year, Mr. Noble is our 6th grade counselor, Mr. Fleming is our 7th grade counselor, and Mrs. Francisco is our 8th grade counselor.

Our counselors support students academically, socially, and emotionally during a key time of growth and change, while also developing the foundations of college and career readiness. They provide individual counseling, assist with conflict resolution, and support students in developing skills like organization, communication, and decision-making. In addition to this, counselors deliver a series of classroom lessons intended to help grow students into well rounded individuals ready to succeed in high school and beyond. Counselors also partner with families to provide support, share resources, and work together to meet each student’s unique needs.

Students who would like to set up an appointment with their counselor can fill out the request form on their grade level Schoology page. If you are a parent and would like to set up an appointment, please reach out ahead of time via e-mail or phone to ensure the counselor’s availability.

Nurse

Harbour Pointe Middle School has a full-time nurse who coordinates student medications, health plans and accommodations, health screenings, immunization compliance and delivers care to students who become ill or injured while at school.  If a student is sick at school, a pass must be obtained from the student’s teacher, and the student shall then report to Student Services.  Students should not go to the nurse without first checking in with and notifying their teacher. When the nurse is not available, office staff will assist.  If the student is too ill to attend class, a parent/guardian will be contacted to pick the student up.  Students should not attend school if they have vomiting, fever, or diarrhea that day, and should return to school after a full 24 hours has passed since the symptoms end.

Medication at School

The school encourages medication to be taken outside of school hours under parent/guardian supervision whenever possible.  However, if any medication needs to be taken while at school, including non-prescription pain-relievers, parents/guardians must supply information along with their signature, and the healthcare provider’s signature on a Medication Authorization form which can be picked up from the nurse in Student Services Office and/or available on the district website.  The written directions by the physician or dentist must come with the medication.  All medication must be in the original container.

Possession of medication at school without the proper paperwork being filed is subject to a Level 2 behavior referral.

For students who take medications for life-threatening conditions, medications must be provided following this protocol before school starts, or they may not be admitted.
