REQUIRED Pre-audition Parent Meeting: Wednesday, January 21st @ 6PM
Location: HP Library or ZOOM

NEW this year, Mr. Hickox and the HP Drama Boosters will be hosting a pre-audition parent meeting to go over the audition process, expectations, and the time commitment involved if your child is a part of the cast or tech crew this year.

All digital audition forms will not be considered valid until a guardian either attends the pre-audition meeting or, if neither parent can attend the in-person/Zoom meeting, reaches out to Mr. Hickox (hickoxta@mukilteo.wednet.edu) to clear your child to audition. It's important that families know what their child is signing up for due to transportation and other potential scheduling conflicts.

We hope to see you there and answer any questions you may have about the process and production.

Get ready to spin, dance, and shine — our HPMS Color Guard is officially starting up! Practices will begin on January 22, and we’re excited to welcome anyone who’s curious to try something new.

Color guard is a great way to build teamwork, learn new skills, and express yourself through movement and choreography. No experience is needed — just bring your energy and a willingness to learn.

Practices will be held every Thursday after school from 2:50-3:50, so mark your calendars and come see what color guard is all about. Whether you’re looking for a creative outlet, a new challenge, or a fun group to be part of, this is your chance to jump in.

We can’t wait to see you there!

Rosters are due Wednesday, January 21st, so don’t wait. Pool play tips off Tuesday, January 27th, and the competition is gonna be fierce. Winners score a pizza lunch, and the grand prize is the ultimate bragging right—your team gets to take on the staff. Sign up today and let’s see who runs the nest, Hawks!

ATTENTION *8TH* GRADE PARENTS ONLY!

In Mukilteo School District students can earn high school world language credits for languages they already speak at home or for which they are already proficient through the World Language Proficiency Exam (WLPE). Registration is open for students in grades 8-12 who have an interest in taking the WLPE and who are relatively proficient in ALL four areas of the language - reading, writing, listening, and speaking. The lowest score among the four areas determines the number of credits earned and up to four high school credits can be awarded. This year the exam will take place the morning of the February 4th in the HP library. There is no cost to take the exam the first time. Some languages require a written essay that takes one hour to complete, followed by a phone interview at a different date. Other languages are assessed online and generally take 2-3 hours to complete. Registration for the exams and more information about the WLPE Exam is available in Schoology in your 8th grader’s Counseling & Library Page where the information was posted early this week. If your student has the language skills for the test, ask them if they’ve already registered and encourage them to do so if they haven’t!

The deadline to register is January 28th.

A MESSAGE FROM MUKILTEO PUBLIC LIBRARY

It’s 3:00 p.m. on a weekday...

Do you know where your tweens and teens are? If you guessed the Mukilteo Library, you’re probably right.

After-school hours are the busiest time of day at the Mukilteo Library, with more than 200 students coming through our doors on a typical weekday afternoon. We love being a welcoming place for young people to gather, unwind, and use library resources. The vision of Sno-Isle Libraries is to connect everyone to their library, and it’s wonderful to see so many students making the library part of their daily routine.

Library staff actively monitor the space and address disruptive behavior as it arises, but we do not serve as substitutes for parents or guardians. You know your student best and can help decide when they’re ready to use the library independently. Staff regularly remind students and all visitors of our expectations so the library remains a safe and welcoming shared public space for everyone.

After a long school day, energy levels can understandably run high. We encourage students to take advantage of outdoor areas to burn off some steam before or during their library visit. Afternoons also tend to involve plenty of snacks, and we ask all library users to clean up after themselves.

We truly appreciate parents and guardians reinforcing these expectations with their students. Your support helps ensure the library continues to be a positive place for studying, relaxing, and connecting with the community.

Library staff are here to help with any concerns from students and community members. Please feel free to reach out the Mukilteo Library Manager, Monica Jackson, anytime at mljackson@sno-isle.org. Join us for an interactive session with district leaders to learn about the Feb. 10 school ballot! Approval of the renewal learning levy would sustain 300 staff members and programs like athletics, arts, and campus safety, while passage of the capital construction bond would fund dozens of projects to improve student safety, replace outdated building systems, and modernize decades-old schools. Bring your questions and hear directly from the leaders guiding this work. Learn more at: www.mukilteoschools.org/bondlevy2026

Absences

If your student is absent, it is important to excuse the absence by doing one of the following:

  1. A written note from the parent/guardian for an excused absence must be received within two school days following a return to school. Administrators may request doctor’s verification for excessive absences.
  2. A phone call from the parent or guardian if a student will be absent. Email HPAttendance@mukilteo.wednet.edu or call the 24-hour attendance line at 425-366-5105. When returning from an absence, a student should always get an “Admit to Class” pass from Student Services. Give this pass to your teacher. If the parent phoned in earlier, or if the student brings a signed excuse, the absence is excused. To avoid having the absence recorded as unexcused; students have one additional day after returning to school to bring a signed note from a parent or guardian.

Pre-Arranged Absences

We would like to remind you that for vacation/travel absences, a Pre-Arranged Absence Form must be filled out and returned to Student Services at least one week prior to travel. If you know that your student will be absent, please ask them to get a form from the Student Services office. Your student will need to bring the form to each of their classes for teacher signatures, then collect a parent's signature before returning it to Student Services for administrator consideration.

Early Pick-Up Procedure

Regular attendance is crucial for students' academic success. We encourage families not to schedule appointments during school hours, although we understand that it may be unavoidable at times. If you need to pick up your student early from school, we require some time to retrieve them from their class. Kindly notify us at least ONE DAY PRIOR
by calling (425) 366-5105, or emailing HPAttendance@mukilteo.wednet.edu with:
  • Your student's name
  • Date & time of student's pick up
  • Reason for leaving school early
Provided with sufficient advance notice for pick-up, we will have your student waiting for you at Student Services at the specified time, saving you from waiting.

(More information can be found in our handbook online.)

GOOD TO KNOW

Scent Awareness

Scented products can trigger serious health reactions in people with asthma, bronchitis, migraines, allergies or chemical sensitivities. Please remind your students to maintain a healthy environment for everyone by not spraying scented products while at school.
A sign reads 'Notice Fragrance Free Zone' with a red circle and slash through a perfume bottle.

MSD Online Payment Portal

If your student is participating in clubs, sports, Band, Choir, or Orchestra, they must purchase a $15.00 ASB membership. If you purchased your PE clothes online, please see our Bookkeeper, located in the Great Hall. Yearbooks will be distributed at then end of the school year.

DO YOUR STUDENTS OWE FEES AND FINES?
Please check if your students have fees and fines. There might be charges for lost/damaged books, club fees, or athletic uniforms that were not returned. Any fines and fees carryover from year to year. It’s best to clear these up now. Please click HERE or scan the QR code to check your student’s account.

Activity Bus Info

  • Students must be a regular bus rider (live within the school bus boundaries)
  • There is one Activity Bus.
  • Students need to know their address.
  • There are limited stops on the route, so it may not be your child's regular stop but somewhat close in proximity, although they may have to walk a bit more to their home.
  • Students may ask the bus drivers to find out which bus they should take and what stop they should get off.
  • This is NOT your student's regular bus route. Depending on when your student's stop is, they could arrive home after 5:00PM.
  • The Activity Bus will leave at 4:10PM from the front of the school.
A yellow school bus is parked in a lot with a blue sky in the background.
A hand reaches out to receive a brown cardboard package, with the word 'Deliveries' in large white letters above.

Deliveries

Items to be delivered to a student during the school day may be placed on the appropriate grade-level shelf located in the vestibule for student pick-up at passing or lunchtime. Please make sure food items arrive in time for a student’s lunch; we cannot guarantee they will have time to eat it otherwise. Staff is not responsible for deliveries or messages unless there is an emergency. Flowers, balloons, and special food treats are not permitted at school due to disruption of learning.

Snacks

Thanks to the generosity of the PTO, we are able to maintain a stock of snacks for students who need extra nourishment during day. As the school year has gotten started, we have seen more and more students getting snacks. We’re especially seeing our sixth graders getting snacks in the afternoon, probably because their lunch time is so early in the day. If families are able, we encourage them to pack extra snacks for their students so that we can maintain the supply for students in need.

If your family needs assistance with food, clothing, or other basic needs, please reach out to Raylin Lucey, the Student Support Advocate at Harbour Pointe Middle School. You can contact him through the SSA Referral Form or by emailing luceyrj@mukilteo.wednet.edu. He is here to connect you with local resources that may be able to provide support.
