STATE TESTING IS ALMOST UPON US!

As we come into the final months of the 2025-2026 school year, state testing is fast approaching. Across the state, 6th-8th graders will be taking the English Language Arts and Mathematics Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBA). In addition to these two tests, 8th graders will also take the Washington Comprehensive Assessment of Science (WCAS). All students will be starting their English Language Arts testing in two extended testing sessions in their first period classes on May 12th and 13th (testing 8:05—10:05 each of these two days). Students will be finishing their English Language Arts testing, if needed, in their subject area classes starting May 14th. Students will start their Mathematics testing on May 19th, and all Mathematics testing will be completed in their subject area classes. This means if your student has 3rd period Math, they will test in their 3rd period class with their usual Math teacher. Testing for 8th graders will wrap up on June 3rd and 4th with WCAS testing in their subject area classes. 

A few things you can do to support your student’s success from home:
  • Ensure your student arrives at school on time.
  • Avoid scheduling appointments during days/times your student will be testing.
  • Have your student eat a healthy breakfast at home or school.
  • If your child has WIRED HEADPHONES they can bring, remind them to pack them.
  • Ensure your child gets a good night of sleep.
  • Have your student plug their computer in the night before to make sure it’s fully charged.
  • Encourage them to do their best!

Attention 6th & 7th Graders: Partner PE applications due by May 4th, shown on a track and field.
Partner PE is a leadership focused class where 7th and 8th graders work with a diverse group of peers, building cooperation, relationships, and an inclusive community. It replaces a student’s general PE class and takes place during 5th or 6th period. Students who apply should be willing to put others first, step outside their comfort zone, and genuinely enjoy helping others. Applications are due May 4th and can be found on their counselor’s Schoology page or by messaging Mr. Pollard directly.
 

FIELD DAY VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

HP is looking for 12 volunteers for our FIELD DAY in June. We would appreciate your assistance for this event.

Time: 11:30 am - 1:15 pm
Task: Food Distribution (handing out water and snacks to students)

Please note: You must be an approved volunteer to participate.

If you have not completed it already, please complete the volunteer application and background check online: https://www.mukilteoschools.org/volunteer. The District will send you an approval email for your volunteer application within a few weeks after submission.

MOVING THIS SUMMER???

Is your family moving into a different school district? Moving out of state? Are you switching your student from in-person to online school?

Please let our registrar, Mrs. Youssef, know of any current or future school changes so she can send your student’s academic records to their new school.

Attention 8th Grade Families!

Below is an important message from Kamiak counselors that was shared with your students on Schoology this week:

“The 2026-2027 schedule request change window opens April 27th and goes until May 8th. Students should log on to their Qmlativ account on April 27th to review their requests. Current 8th graders can make changes via email/Schoology messages to their Kamiak Counselor (see the website for contact information). Please note that only emails/Schoology messages from the student (not the student’s parent/guardian) will be processed.”

Mrs. Francisco will remind your student(s) when the window officially opens, but double check with your student this weekend that the courses they requested are the ones they want and encourage them to reach out to their Kamiak counselor when the window opens to make changes if not!

Mr. Lucey helps students and families connect with resources such as food, clothing, housing, bill assistance, mental health support, health insurance, documentation, and more. He is also available as a safe person to talk with and to help connect families to community supports.

Mukilteo School District Students Take Action to Fill School Pantries

“There’s Hope in Every Can” drive helps ensure peers have what they need to succeed

For some students, the biggest barrier to learning is not homework, it is hunger. That is why student leaders across the Mukilteo School District are leading There’s Hope in Every Can, a spring districtwide food drive supporting classmates who need extra support.

“Not every student talks about it but many are dealing with food insecurity,” said Summer Robinson, Big Picture High School. “If collecting donations at places like Sound Credit Union and Mukilteo QFC means someone can focus in class instead of worrying about their next meal, that is worth it. One donation might not seem like much but to someone who needs it, it is everything.”

“Hundreds of students benefit from these donations each week,” said Mary Natalie Shattleroe, Kamiak High School. “When our pantry shelves run low there is less for our friends and peers. We see lots of donations around the holidays, but students need food to fuel their success all year and that is why we are working to raise awareness and donations this spring.”

Donations support students across the district including pantry programs at Mariner, Kamiak and ACES Big Picture high schools and the district Family Engagement Center in Everett.

Attendance

Attendance is an important factor in your child’s success in their education journey! That said, we are aware that sometimes it is unavoidable to miss school. While there are many reasons students may be absent, there is only ONE thing you need to do when it happens:

Please be sure to contact the attendance office by phone or email, 24hrs a day to report your student’s absence. Include your child’s name, grade, and reason for missing school. 425.366.5105, or HPAttendance@mukilteo.wednet.edu

If you know in advance that your student will be absent for one day or more, please complete the prearranged absence form at this LINK, or find it in another language on the district website. Be sure to choose the middle school option from the list of choices.

Absences

If your student is absent, it is important to excuse the absence by doing one of the following: 

  1. A written note from the parent/guardian for an excused absence must be received within two school days following a return to school. Administrators may request doctor’s verification for excessive absences.  
  2. A phone call from the parent or guardian if a student will be absent. Email HPAttendance@mukilteo.wednet.edu or call the 24-hour attendance line at 425-366-5105. When returning from an absence, a student should always get an “Admit to Class” pass from Student Services. Give this pass to your teacher. If the parent phoned in earlier, or if the student brings a signed excuse, the absence is excused. To avoid having the absence recorded as unexcused; students have one additional day after returning to school to bring a signed note from a parent or guardian. 

Pre-Arranged Absences

We would like to remind you that for vacation/travel absences, a Pre-Arranged Absence Form must be filled out and returned to Student Services at least one week prior to travel. If you know that your student will be absent, please ask them to get a form from the Student Services office. Your student will need to bring the form to each of their classes for teacher signatures, then collect a parent's signature before returning it to Student Services for administrator consideration. 

Early Pick-Up Procedure

Regular attendance is crucial for students' academic success. We encourage families not to schedule appointments during school hours, although we understand that it may be unavoidable at times. If you need to pick up your student early from school, we require some time to retrieve them from their class. Kindly notify us at least ONE DAY PRIOR by calling (425) 366-5105, or emailing HPAttendance@mukilteo.wednet.edu with:
  • Your student's name
  • Date & time of student's pick up
  • Reason for leaving school early
Provided with sufficient advance notice for pick-up, we will have your student waiting for you at Student Services at the specified time, saving you from waiting.

GOOD TO KNOW

Scent Awareness

Scented products can trigger serious health reactions in people with asthma, bronchitis, migraines, allergies or chemical sensitivities. Please remind your students to maintain a healthy environment for everyone by not spraying scented products while at school.

If your student is participating in clubs, sports, Band, Choir, or Orchestra, they must purchase a $15.00 ASB membership. If you purchased your PE clothes online, please see our Bookkeeper, located in the Great Hall. Yearbooks will be distributed at then end of the school year.

DO YOUR STUDENTS OWE FEES AND FINES?
Please check if your students have fees and fines. There might be charges for lost/damaged books, club fees, or athletic uniforms that were not returned. Any fines and fees carryover from year to year. It’s best to clear these up now. Please click HERE or scan the QR code to check your student’s account.

Activity Bus Info

  • Students must be a regular bus rider (live within the school bus boundaries)
  • There is one Activity Bus.
  • Students need to know their address.
  • There are limited stops on the route, so it may not be your child's regular stop but somewhat close in proximity, although they may have to walk a bit more to their home.
  • Students may ask the bus drivers to find out which bus they should take and what stop they should get off.
  • This is NOT your student's regular bus route. Depending on when your student's stop is, they could arrive home after 5:00PM.
  • The Activity Bus will leave at 4:10PM from the front of the school.

Deliveries

Items to be delivered to a student during the school day may be placed on the appropriate grade-level shelf located in the vestibule for student pick-up at passing or lunchtime. Please make sure food items arrive in time for a student’s lunch; we cannot guarantee they will have time to eat it otherwise. Staff is not responsible for deliveries or messages unless there is an emergency. Flowers, balloons, and special food treats are not permitted at school due to disruption of learning.  

Snacks

Thanks to the generosity of the PTO, we are able to maintain a stock of snacks for students who need extra nourishment during day. As the school year has gotten started, we have seen more and more students getting snacks. We’re especially seeing our sixth graders getting snacks in the afternoon, probably because their lunch time is so early in the day. If families are able, we encourage them to pack extra snacks for their students so that we can maintain the supply for students in need.
